The Right Dress For Your Body

Your wedding dress should reflect who you are, but should also make you feel comfortable. Since wedding dresses come in several different styles, knowing what type of dress best flatters your figure will help enhance your beauty and confidence. All of our dresses are made with either satin, chiffon, organza, crepe and/or lace. Choose a dress that will flatter your figure NOT one that is just eye appealing.

The dress you pick should do both.

To look taller: A dress with a high neckline and/or an empire waist will give the illusion of height. A short sleeved or sleeveless dress with long gloves will also elongate your bodice. Another neckline that usually flatters the petite woman is an off-the-shoulder or strapless necklines. Be careful not to choose a dress that overwhelms you. It helps to choose a gown that has the detail work around the neckline and the hem line. It draws the eye up and down the dress. Ball-gown styles or full dresses can easily swallow up a petite women or make them appear even shorter. Stay with a simple style such as a Sheath, mermaid or a slimA-line.

To de-emphasize height: A drop waist with a wide belt and trim or ruffles that wraps around the dress will minimize height. Open, off the shoulder, low necklines with flowy sleeves are also an alternative. Women who tend to be taller are apt to be able to wear any style and look good. Remember, however, to take into consideration the rest of your body dimentions when choosing a gown, not only your height.

To appear curvier: You can add a few pounds by selecting a heavier fabric such as velvet or satin. Choose a wider bodice with a gathered waist and narrow sleeves.

To appear more slender: You'll seem slimmer if you wear a dress with a higher waistline, a Princess style or A-line dress. Scoop necks can be very flattering. Pick a dress that emphasizes your best feature.

To de-emphasize your bustline: A V-neck, scoop neck or high neckline with a keyhole opening is usually very flattering. Avoid empire or cinched waists, they accentuate larger breasts. A straight skirt, A-line dress or fitted bodice with a full skirt is also flattering.

To de-emphasize wide hips: This common problem can be disguised with a flared skirt or A-line dress. Emphasize your upper body and waist (instead of your hips) by selecting a gown with bodice detail, like lace or beading. Stay away from shiny materials. A boat neckline is a wise choice.

For the short-waisted: A-line or drop waist bodices help elongate your torso because they mask your real waistline.

Are You Bony?
If you are very slim, the Ball Gown style will make you look like a ballerina and will balance out your silhouette. The Sheath and mermaid style is also well-suited to your body type.

Are You Pear-Shaped?
Focus attention on your upper half, not your bottom, with an A-Line or slim Ball Gown style, either strapless or with off-the-shoulder sleeves.

Are You Thick-Waisted? Try the high-waist style of an empire gown that will produce a longer-body, slimming look. Empire gowns come in sheath, mermaid and A-line. A wrap around A-line dress is very becoming to the figure when you have a thick waist.

Are You Broad?
Select a dress with a narrow bodice to accentuate an hourglass figure in halter or strapless styles. Avoid off-the-shoulder styles that will tend to make you look wider. An A-line dress, sheath or mermaid style can create a really dramatic look depending on your style of hips.

Are You Full-figured?
Consider the Ball Gown style ,or the Mermaid style for a more dramatic expression.

Are You Boxy?
The Empire-style is one of the best for you with its high waist, fitted bodice and straight line. Also consider the Ball Gown-style to pinch the waist to give you a more hour-glass figure.

Are You Short-Waisted?
Princess line styles, fitted at the bodice and flaring from the waist to the hem, will tend to elongate your figure.

Are You Busty?
You can choose two directions: to enhance or not to enhance . Ball Gown styles with a fitted waist will enhance the bustline, which is balanced off fullness coming off the waist. The Mermaid style is also an ideal way to show off your curves.
